Covering a Set of Points with a Minimum Number of Lines

چکیده
We consider the minimum line covering problem: given a set S of n points in the plane, we want to find the smallest number l of straight lines needed to cover all n points in S. We show that this problem can be solved in O(n log l) time if l ∈ O(log n), and that this is optimal in the algebraic computation tree model (we show that the Ω(n log l) lower bound holds for all values of l up to O( √ n)). Furthermore, a O(log l)-factor approximation can be found within the same O(n log l) time bound if l ∈ O( 4 √n). For the case when l ∈ Ω(log n) we suggest how to improve the time complexity of the exact algorithm by a factor exponential in l.

A Fast Algorithm for Covering Rectangular Orthogonal Polygons with a Minimum Number of r-Stars
Introduction This paper presents an algorithm for covering orthogonal polygons with minimal number of guards. This idea examines the minimum number of guards for orthogonal simple polygons (without holes) for all scenarios and can also find a rectangular area for each guards. We consider the problem of covering orthogonal polygons with a minimum number of r-stars. In each orthogonal polygon P,...
متن کاملOn the approximability of covering points by lines and related problems
Given a set P of n points in the plane, Covering Points by Lines is the problem of finding a minimum-cardinality set L of lines such that every point p ∈ P is incident to some line l ∈ L. As a geometric variant of Set Cover, Covering Points by Lines is still NP-hard. Moreover, it has been proved to be APX-hard, and hence does not admit any polynomial-time approximation scheme unless P = NP. In ...
متن کاملThe fuzzy logic in air pollution forecasting model
In the paper a model to predict the concentrations of particulate matter PM10, PM2.5, SO2, NO, CO and O3 for a chosen number of hours forward is proposed. The method requires historical data for a large number of points in time, particularly weather forecast data, actual weather data and pollution data. The idea is that by matching forecast data with similar forecast data in the historical data...
متن کاملON COVERING POINTS WITH CONICS AND STRIPS IN THE PLANE A Thesis by PRAVEEN TIWARI
Geometric covering problems have always been of focus in computer scientific research. The generic geometric covering problem asks to cover a set S of n objects with another set of objects whose cardinality is minimum, in a geometric setting. Many versions of geometric cover have been studied in detail, one of which is line cover: Given a set of points in the plane, find the minimum number of l...

In this paper, three types of (philosophical, optimistic and pessimistic) multigranulation single valued neutrosophic (SVN) covering-based rough set models are presented, and these three models are applied to the problem of multi-criteria group decision making (MCGDM).Firstly, a type of SVN covering-based rough set model is proposed.Based on this rough set model, three types of mult...
